Ministries

St. Matthew’s Parish is blessed to have a wonderful group of volunteers in various Ministries. We are truly grateful for all their time and talents!

Being part of a ministry is an excellent opportunity to fulfill your baptismal call of service to one another. Our liturgies utilize the talents and gifts that God has given this community to the fullest extent. Whether participation is through “behind the scenes” preparation and planning or through a public role of service within the Mass, parishioner contributions help our liturgies to be truly life-giving celebrations.

Please prayerfully consider joining one of these ministries and should you wish to join any of these ministries or have any questions, please call the parish office for more information!

Acolyte

Also known as Adult Servers, these dedicated men and women insure that all liturgical celebrations are reverent and gracious. Acolytes assist the Presider and Assembly by serving at the Lord’s Table and by distributing Holy Communion. This ministry is open to all confirmed women and men eighteen years of age and older.

Altar Servers

Altar Servers offer service to God and the community by assisting the priest during Mass. The ministry is open to all youth of the parish who have made their First Communion and whose parents believe they are ready and responsible enough to be trained.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Parishioners assist with the distribution of the Eucharist (Body and Blood) at weekday, weekend and Holy Day Masses. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (formerly known as Eucharistic Ministers) must be 18 years of age, have received the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Catholic Church and, if married, must be recognized by the Church.

Ushers & Greeters

Ushers assist at each Sunday Mass, Holy Day Mass, and other special occasions as needed. The ushering staff is made up of adult men and women who are capable of directing crowd flow and movement, take up the collection, and assist those with special needs.

Proclaimers

Proclaimers, also known as lectors or readers are essential members of the liturgical team. These men and women proclaim the Word of God, where God speaks to His people. When the assembly gathers, those who are part of this ministry proclaim the readings from the Old and New Testaments. The second reader is also responsible for sharing the Prayers of the Faithful with the congregation.

Music

The music ministry here at St. Matthew’s is a vital part of our worship. We have a talented group of people involved in our music with a variety of instruments. We also have a children’s choir and a youth choir.

Collection Counters

The collection counters are a devoted group of people who are responsible for counting the monies received each weekend and depositing it at the bank. Teams have been formed to count the weekly collection. Working on a rotating basis, they meet to prepare the weekly deposit. The time commitment is typically in the range of an hour or two.

Scrubbies

The Scrubbies are a group of volunteers who come on Wednesday mornings to clean the church and hospitality meeting room.

Decorating Group

As you approach the church, walk into the entrance and enter the worship space itself, you subtly prepare for what is about to take place. Sometimes we are greeted by bales and pumpkins, by pine branches and red bows, or by pussy willows and lilies. Those who work in this ministry exercise creativity, skill and craft in preparing the church for a sacred gathering of God’s people.

Hospitality

After Sunday Masses there is an opportunity for fellowship and conversation. Coffee, tea and small snacks are provided. The Hospitality group ensures coffee is on and the room is ready for people to come sit a while and visit. This ministry is currently on hold due to the on-going renovations.

Altar Linens

Like those who serve by creating a thoughtfully appointed place for worship, these people are “behind the scenes.” They are the ones who insure that linens are laundered, ironed and folded correctly.
