Father Sathia’s recent update on our Parish Staff

April 16, 2020

My dear Parishioners of St. Matthew’s!

Let me wish you all a Happy Easter and may the Blessings of Resurrection fill your hearts and families.

During the Holy Week I offered the Holy Eucharist and all of Liturgical services keeping in mind all the sufferings and hardships that you go through without being able to join me as a faithful community. I prayed that the Lord protects us and deliver us from this pandemic as He did with the people of Israel. Every day I offer Holy Mass at our Church altar or at my religious community for the intentions we have already received.

Now after the Easter, the church and the parish office will be opened every day from 8.30 am – 4.00 pm. You are most welcome to make a visit and pray in front of the Blessed Sacrament. I am available in my office at the Church from Tuesday to Sunday from 9 am onwards.  I am also available for confession on Fridays from 6.00 to 7.00 pm and Saturdays 4.00 to 5.00 pm. In all your access to the Church, I strongly encourage you to follow all the protocols required amidst COVID-19 pandemic.

In the absence of Sunday mass contribution and collection, as good stewards it is important to realize that many of the everyday expenses to run our parish will still continue.  I know that these are financially challenging times for all of us. Some of our parishioners do come and donate their contribution in the office while quite a few have started contributing through online transaction facilitated in our website’s donate button. To all those who have contributed through online donate button I have personally replied a thank you note in the return email. I encourage all of you to go through our parish website every now and then, in order that you are aware of what is happening in our parish during this time of social distancing.

As directed by the Archdiocese and with the help of ‘temporary advisory committee’ for staff management we are in the process of restructuring staffs’ position and duties at our parish. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our parish office or email me at sathiaseelan.kulandaisamysdb@caedm.ca and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Please be assured that you are always in my prayers. If there is any way I can be of service, please do not hesitate to call me at the parish office.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus,

Greetings to all the Parishioners of St. Matthews!

Let me introduce myself first. I am Fr. Sathiaseelan, a Salesian Priest. I would like to be called as Fr. Sathia. I am just taking over this parish of St. Matthew’s at the appointment order of our beloved Archbishop Richard W. Smith, from 2nd March, 2020.

I am originally from India, just served this archdiocese for One and half years at OLPH parish at Sherwood Park till 1st March, 2020.  I was ordained a priest, on 30th December, 1997 and I came to Canada, in August, 2018. Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish gave me a lot of opportunities to explore into priestly ministry within our Canadian culture. I had a pleasant and joyful experience of ministering at the care home centres, visiting our Catholic schools and more so, in animating and officiating at the sacramental celebrations of Catholic community at OLPH.

And here am I, at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Edmonton. What an honor! Yes indeed, it is an honor for me to be your pastor. Thank you very much for your openness to welcome me into this great community; as your priest and pastor, and as your spiritual brother and friend in Christ Jesus.

Let God’s mission be our mission and together, let us do our very best to be part of that mission, building up God’s Kingdom here in this great community. I do need your prayers, help and support.

At this juncture, I would like to thank Rev. Fr. John Louis Mariapragasam, for his dedicated service as a pastor and leader, who reorganised this parish within a shorter period of time and won the hearts of many. May God continue to bless him!

Thank you!

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Sathiaseelan. Sdb
